Topolski
Topolski is not just a bar. It's actually a gallery-cafe-bar-venue, it says so on the menus and their website. Situated right next door to the Southbank Centre, Topolski is the perfect venue for pre or post-Southbank food and drink. It has a common room vibe, and canteen-style seating. There's a DJ booth and a table-tennis room. The most important thing you need to know is that - they serve prosecco on draught! DRAUGHT PROSECCO!
Prosecco on tap aside, the is actually quite a special London location; the former studio of celebrated artist Feliks Topolski (1907-1989), and the place from where he made some of his most important works. The bar displays some of his work, and say of Toploski - "he had an eye for the iconic and the eccentric that remains part of London's South Bank's cultural DNA." What I love about this place is how eclectic it is - there's the two-for-one cocktail happy hours and club nights, but there's also families popping in for lunch, and old ladies enjoying lemon drizzle cake and a cuppa. A brilliant slice of culture and London's art history, and a convenient location for South Bankers.
Open: Monday-Saturday from 10am, Sunday from 12pm, and closing between 11pm and 1am. Reservations are taken.
