Sexist Selfridges

Sexist Selfridges

I'm becoming more and more passionate about digital marketing, SEO, and all things inter-web, so when I heard there was a relevant article in Wired Magazine I popped into Selfridges to pick up a copy. I scoured the many popular periodicals in the technology section, not unreasonably assuming this was where I would find it. This was indeed a wrong assumption. Turns out it's in the Men's Lifestyle section, which, FYI, seems to amount to clothes, boobs, cars and gadgets (though not specifically computers, which are in the technology section... right next to the men's section). I know all magazines have a target audience to market themeselves to, and the men can keep Playboy and Nuts and cars, for sure. But aren't women interested in internet innovation and startup culture? I know that most of the people I meet in the blogosphere/online business/social media world are female, and ditto with attendees at relevant conferences and forums. So there either needs to be a web and tech magaine aimed at women, or perhaps Wired or Selfridges need to be less gender-lifestyle specific.
