The Cut Bar

Yesterday I described my visit to the Young Vic Theatre to see A Season in the Congo, and raved about how amazing they had made the stage and auditorium look. While we were there we also had a delicious dinner at The Cut Bar which is conveniently located inside the building, and has a very laid-back atmosphere. They pack the tables in quite tightly, but you can choose to sit outside on the upstairs terrace. There's also sofas for people who just want a pre-show drink. They do very good cocktails, the one I had (above) is The Strand, which is vodka, honey vodka, whiskey, apple juice and lemon. I think it had fresh pomegranate in it as well, which it didn't mention on the menu. Maybe I was given the wrong drink, but whatever I did get was insanely scrumptious.

My friend had the Strawberry Fizz, which is a virgin cocktail of lemonade with fresh strawberries and lime. I tried a bit, and it is sweet, but very refreshing and summery. For starters we ordered the deep fried goat's cheese with honey and pomegranate (which it was supposed to have), and the 'House Foccacia' with oil and vinegar. The cheese was mouthwateringly good, and we were saying we should have ordered one each. Or maybe I just said that in my head. The bread was so-so and one piece was really quite burnt on top.

For the main I had very tasty vegetarian bites. My friend ordered a salad off of the specials board, which had trout, potatoes and egg in it. She loved it! We also had chips and hot smoky black beans, both were really good. The beans were just the right amount of spice, and so moreish! We also had dessert - a divine chocolant fondant and ice cream, but I was too busy stressing about getting in to the play to take a picture. They were calling people into the auditorium before our last course had even arrived. Our waiter was so laid back about it, and reassuring us that it would be here before they made the final call. I guess they are experts at pre-theatre dining and have got the timings running like clockwork. It all worked out in the end, and we made it to our seats with enough time for me to take some some photos. I really recommend The Cut Bar for food and cocktails, even if you aren't seeing a show.
