Here Comes the Sun

Although I was happy that the sun bowled up last week, my joy at seeing everything sparkle and twinkle in strong sunlight soon waned when it became unbearably hot. And as someone with the fairest of skins, I even pined a bit for colder weather. Not some kind of ice storm, you understand, just a bit of a breeze. Getting out of London at the weekend was a smart idea as I got my wish; the coast of Kent was delciously sunny, but with enough sea breeze to stop it being as stifling as the city. We took a family road trip down to Walmer to see my aunt's new house. I've never been there (I've never actually heard of it) but it's between Deal and Dover, geography fans.

We walked along the beach and stopped off at a pub for a pint break. We stood longingly outside Walmer Castle but just missed the last entry time by about ten minutes. Next time I'll go in - I do love a nosey round a good castle.

My aunt's new pad is pretty heavenly. It's a a five bedroom house with a converted attic and a mahoosive garden. It's mad that it cost the same as her two-bed flat in West London. But although you get more for your money in the far reaches of Kent, my aunt did confess that she is missing London already, and even had a trip to a nightclub in Chelsea planned for next week. She is seventy-five by the way, but it's only these kind of antics (and her snapping away taking photos on her new iPad) that make me love her more!

That, and the fact that she made us this fresh strawberry feast. Hello summer!
